Youth Sport Program
The Youth Sports Program at the Victorian Afghan Youth Association (VAYA) is committed to building a vibrant community sports hub. Our aim is to promote physical and mental well-being through sport and physical activities, fostering resilience and a strong sense of belonging within our community.
Why Youth Sports Matter
Introducing young people to sports from an early age not only sets the foundation for lifelong physical activity but also nurtures important life skills. It provides them with a positive outlet for energy, turns interests into hobbies, and helps them develop their talents naturally. The benefits of youth sports, especially football, extend beyond the field:
Boosting Self-Confidence

Being part of a team instills a sense of belonging. Youth learn that their contributions matter, gaining confidence from their role on the pitch. This sense of responsibility helps shape future leaders and team players.
Building a Strong Body and Mind

Football is a physically demanding sport that strengthens both the body and mind. Through running, dribbling, and teamwork, young athletes gradually develop physical fitness and mental sharpness. Starting early helps them build core
strength and resilience that will benefit them throughout adolescence and beyond.
Developing Character

Sports bring people together—friends, teammates, and even rivals. Competing teaches youth how to handle victories and losses, shaping their emotional resilience and teamwork skills. Through these experiences, they develop community
ties, learn to support each other, and face challenges together.
Enhancing Communication Skills

On the field, effective communication is key. Whether it’s understanding the coach’s instructions or coordinating with teammates, sports help young people develop valuable interpersonal and communication skills that translate into
                      other areas of life.
